Music Ministers help the congregation find their voice in sung prayer and praise to God. The purpose of music in liturgy is to serve the communal prayer of the assembly. As leaders of song, the sound we love to hear is the congregation singing. This means that the primary ministers of music are not the cantors, choir or instrumentalists, but rather YOU: the congregation! Music does what words alone cannot do, and pastoral musicians help the people of God connect with their hearts. Faith can grow as gathered believers sing together in unity. We invite you to learn more about the different opportunities for more active participation in leading sung prayer.

Singing with our Mater Christi Musical Groups is a wonderful way to share time and talent with your parish. Participation in the choir helps us to develop our faith and our musical skills while meeting terrific people!

If you would like additional information about any of the opportunities to participate in music ministry here at Mater Christi, please email Jeanine Watylyk at tfwjw@sbcglobal.net, or call the Rectory at 708-442-5611 and leave your name and telephone number, or come on up to the loft! All are welcome to come and give music a try!

Youth Choir is for boys and girls from second through eighth grade.

Rehearsals are every other week this year on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the choir loft starting on October 19, 2017.

Our youth choir sings twice a month at rotating mass times and at Christmas, Stations of the Cross, Easter Sunday, First Holy Communion and this year also at the Family Masses, which will be led by our Faith Formation students.

The Choir sings at 9:30 am Masses from September through May and rehearses on Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 pm in the choir loft, starting on September 7, 2017.

Our Choir will also sing at the Healing Mass, The Mass for All Souls, Christmas, Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Easter Vigil, and assist at the Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Come and give it a try!

The Ensemble sings twice a month during the 5 pm Saturday Masses and rehearses prior to mass from 3:45 to 4:45 pm in the lower level of the church.

We currently have two guitarists, and we welcome instrumentalists to join us! In addition to Saturday Mass, the Ensemble also sings at Thanksgiving Mass, Midnight Mass on Christmas, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

The Resurrection Choir gathers a half hour before each funeral mass to review the music that the family requests.

Members are notified two days before each funeral via e-mail, text or telephone call.

Singers in the resurrection choir come to assist as their schedule allows. The majority of the funeral masses are at 10 am Monday through Saturday, and new members are always welcome to sing when you are available.

Men’s Choir sings for the evening service on Good Friday.

The last two years we rehearsed in the evening the two Mondays prior to Good Friday.

All men of the parish are welcome to join us.

Choir Chimes is our newest group, and this fall we will begin our second year!

Our rehearsals are usually Monday and Friday mornings from 8:30 am until 9:30 am or whenever the members are available.

We play at 2 masses a month. It is not necessary to read music to ring a hand chime, and the chimes are very light weight!

We will start rehearsing in October 2017, so watch for the start date in the bulletin or this webpage and consider giving it a try; we could use more hands to help us!

Cantors help lead our congregation throughout the mass during the sung mass parts and hymns.

If you have any questions about becoming a cantor, please see Jeanine Watylyk in the loft after mass.
